Garmin GPS
I have to make sure I thank my son when we get home. When we left for our vacation he gave me a Garmin GPS so we could always find our way home. I thought it was a bit corny but appreciated the gesture. I never expected us to actually use the Garmin GPS. I mean we are adults fully capable of reading a map. Boy was I ever wrong.
Maps only help if they are up to date, and take into account construction reroutes. Summer is when every community repairs their roads with no thought for the weary traveler on vacation. Sure enough, more than once we found ourselves putting the maps aside to use the Garmin GPS to find our way back from where the detours sent us. It saved us a lot of time. I am sure we would have spent a few sleepless nights trying to find our way back to where we wanted to be. Eventually we stopped using the maps all together. The GPS unit was so useful and easy to use, why bother with the maps. I am never going on another driving vacation without it.
