lcd hdtv, home theater Is a LCD HDTV the right choice or will a plasma do the trick? This is a question I have been fumbling around with for the past week as I try to decide what kind of flat panel to pick for my room. Here’s the situation: my room has limited natural light do to curtains. Sitting on top of my dresser from screen to bed is about seven feet and a home theater is already in place. What I want to know is what will be the most cost effective avenue for the best bedroom media experience.. After consulting a friend, I like to think of as a tech guru, I have a better idea of the pluses and minuses to a LCD HDTV vs. a Plamsa. The first thing he said is like everything else you get what you pay for. My bank account does not like this idea.

He said, lower end plasma TVs have a noticeably different contrast and detail as compared to a 1080p HDTV but you will save cash. Higher grade are extremely vibrant and perfect for natural light heavy rooms. He did say some plasmas don’t have internal speakers making a home theater necessary so look out for that in the description.

LCD HDTVs are said to be lighter and more durable. The easiest comparison is with computer screens, which have been LCDs for a long time. LCD HDTV screens may normally be lighter but usually have more depth then a plasma unless going with the top of the line OLED models but those pull a premium. LCD HDTV screens use less energy and are therefore cooler and quieter which is a big plus for me. He said an LCD HDTV is like a team player who can fill any spot. May not be the best in any one category but is pretty good in all of them.
