I went online to research ways to save money on energy costs when using a Plasma or LCD HDTV. As everyone probably already knows, flat panels use a decent amount of energy and in the spirit of saving some monthly cash on electricity, I though relaying the best tips I found online would be a good thing. These energy saving tips work for 720p to 1080p HDTV Plasma or LCD screens:
- A no brainer but turn the screen off when it is not being watched.
- In the 1080p HDTV settings, there should be an option to turn off the backlight, this should be considered when trying to save energy.
- Some flat panels have a “Power Save” mode so thumb through the options to see if your set has it.
- Plasma screens use more energy then a LCD HDTV but in turn project a brighter picture.
- If shopping for a flat panel, look for an Energy Star rating.
- When going out of town, unplug your flat panel because it uses energy when off. This is true for any electronics.
- Another no brainer but bigger screens use more electricity so consider this when shopping.
