Before I purchased my awesome LCD HDTV I had some decisions and factors to weigh in on. One, I knew that there were two choices for truly high definition televisions that were not projections televisions. So naturally, there were two obvious choices: an LCD HDTV or a plasma TV. I did some research between the two different TVs and I was able to easily come to my conclusion: I wanted an LCD HDTV, and here is why. The plasma TV research that I did showed that those TVs can wear out faster and that pixels can actually burn in faster than with an LCD HDTV. Because plasma TVs operate on gas, whereas LCD HDTVs operate using a TFT active matrix screen, the choice was obvious for me. I am not knocking plasma, but I have a good, real life example of why I picked an LCD HDTV. Have you ever walked into a sports bar and saw how dim and faded the screens are on plasma TVs? I watch a lot of TV and I felt that I might get a longer life out of my LCD TV.
